How to Fine Dine!

DCON is THIS Friday, everyone! If you don’t know, we will be having a nice dinner on Saturday. Be prepared and impress your club members with your dining etiquette. Here are some helpful tips you may not know!

When in Doubt, Start from the Out – It can be confusing when there are tons of different forks and knives on the table. If you aren’t sure, just know you take your utensils and go from the outside and work your way towards the plate.

Don’t Sin your Napkin – Do not put your napkin down your shirt/dress! You will have a nicely folded napkin on your plate, remove it from the table and unfold it to make a perfect square. Give it a diagonal fold to make a triangle and place the seam towards you and the point away from you.

Break the Bread – you know how you get a fresh piece of bread, cut it in half, and butter it all over and then indulge? That is wrong etiquette! You are supposed to rip off the portion of bread you want to eat and butter that portion. Then, you will rip off another piece and butter that piece. It is probably more work this way, but it is the way!

Start from the Stem – Wine glasses (though it will be filled with water at DCON), seem awkward in shape and it may feel natural to hold the glass around the bell (the part where the drink is), but proper way is to hold it by the stem between your thumb and forefinger. However, if you are super klutzy, it’s better to hold it from the bell of the glass then dropping in front of the entire district.

P.S. Leo does it wrong -.- #shameleo #shame

Tell the Staff you’re Done – Don’t physically tell them. Show them with your table manners! When you are done eating, place your knife and fork making and X or V shape on your plate and place the napkin on the side of the plate, so they know you are done!

P.S. Make sure the fork is facing down! :)

Alright! Good Luck eating at DCON! I hope you are able to practice these fun, but appropriate, dining etiquettes! :)
