Now that you have written a bomb resume, time to crush that interview. You may be nervous and may not know what to do next, but fret not, here’s how to interview! So I’ll start off with mistakes people make during interviews (Data also stolen from the same Buzzfeed article).
67% fail to make eye contact.
47% have no prior knowledge of where they are applying to.
38% don’t smile.
33% have bad posture.
33% fidget too much.
26% have a weak handshake.
21% play with their hair or touch their face.
21% cross their arms over their chest.
9% use too many hand gesture.
Just because you do the things listed above doesn’t automatically mean you won’t get the job.
Now for my personal advice on how to interview! Make sure you know where you are applying to and know what you are expected to do for your position. It not only makes you look like you're well informed, but it shows that you took the time to do your homework and employers love hard working people, right? You can be expected to be asked the most basic questions like:
Why do you want to work here?
What makes you qualified to work for us?
Do you have any past experiences with….?
Before the interview, learn about the organization or company you want to work for and review the qualifications you have for the job and be ready to talk about your past experience. If you have no past experience that’s quite alright as well! I was hired as a therapist with little to no experience with therapy. The main thing employers look for is creativity and people who stand out. So go out there and be confident, be yourself, and get that job!
