1. Theme is “Service Baked Fresh”

Every year, the district committees picks an awesome theme for DCON and FTC. Last year, our DCON theme was a detective theme "Searching for Service". FTC’s theme was "Sail Away with Circle K". At this year's DCON, our theme is a tasty one: "Service Baked Fresh"! The main ballroom, your programs, T-Shirts, and other accessories will revolve around this theme because who doesn’t love a trip to the bakery?

2. Endless Fellowship Opportunities

Throughout DCON, you will have the opportunity to meet and hang out with hundreds of members in Circle K clubs throughout California, Nevada and Hawaii. You’ll get to interact with them during interactive workshops, the awards ceremony, through exchanging spirit items, while challenging each other with spirit battles, during the dance with an awesome DJ, and during the many other activities that will be offered.

3. Workshops

This year’s DCON will feature quality workshops about personal skills, fellowship, leadership, and a variety of panels are there as well. These include: The difference a general member makes, balancing Circle K and school, panels for new board members, for those interested in serving on the district and international level, workshops about mentorship, managing finances, and many more to choose from. Not only can you learn a lot from attending workshops, you can learn a lot from hosting them, so I hope you will look out for inspiration to host one for your club or at a future district event (like Spring Training Conference South or FTC).

4. Election of next District Board

Each club that attends District Convention will have the opportunity to watch the district office caucus, ask them questions and vote for them during House of Delegates. We will be choosing a 2016-2017 District Governor, Secretary, Treasurer, and each division will choose their Lieutenant Governor. These people that are here for our clubs throughout the term doing one on one’s with club board members to give any needed advice and resources, which can be assistance on using the Membership Update Center to pay dues, help with registering for District Events, ideas on recruiting and retaining members, planning effective service projects, fun socials and activities, or working through challenges that your club may have. The district board’s goal is to help the club’s succeed and grow so if you ever need their help, don’t hesitate to reach out!! Below is a picture from last year’s house of delegates as the District Governor prepares to announce vote results.

5. Honors Reception for graduating and transferring members

Another cool part of DCON is the ceremony to honor members that are graduating or transferring.

6. Awards

DCON will feature an awesome award ceremony to recognize members for their distinguished service, strong leadership, and loving fellowship. There’s the membership recognition program (MRP) from the district MD&E committee to recognize members for their outstanding participation, scholarship awards, distinguished board member awards for president’s, VP’s, Secretaries, Treasurers, and appointed officers, an award for outstanding general members, outstanding newsletter, website, traditional and non-traditional scrapbook, and many others. If you have not yet applied, most of them with a few exceptions are due received by the Kiwanis District Office by March 3rd. While the impact we make with community service is much more valuable than an award, it feels great to be recognized for it so don’t let that opportunity slip through your fingers.

7. Talent acts

After the awards ceremony, we get to enjoy some fun talent acts that clubs spend hours planning and rehearsing for our entertainment. When you see this year’s performers around, be sure to give them props for putting themselves out there.

8. Saturday’s Dance

After the talent show ends, you’ll get to bust some moves on the dance floor to the beat of an awesome mix the DJ prepared for us. If it gets too crazy or dancing isn’t your thing, you can enjoy the alternative activities planned and there will be an exposition and career fair happening simultaneously.

9. Exposition and Career Fair

During the exposition fair, clubs have an opportunity to showcase their club with a tri-fold, fundraise with t-shirt sales or other club swag, and show off their scrapbooks both traditional and non-traditional. There will also be a career fair brought to you by Kiwanians and Alumni if you need tips for perfecting that resume, cover letter, your interview, and everything else you need to know to land that dream job/career.

10. Installation and Retirement of District Board during closing session

Before we say goodbye and take a bunch of last minute photos, we will enjoy a delicious brunch, an award will go to the outstanding talent acts, and we will watch the current district board members pin the new district board members (their successors) as they are installed. Tae, our district governor will give his outgoing speech, and your new DGOV will give an incoming speech before he or she adjourns DCON 2016. This usually involves a lot of crying and cheering and is a wonderful way to start the new CKI year. Below is from last year’s closing session and the Magic Kingdom Divisional photo from DCON 2015.
