Hi guys! My name is Christopher Te and I'm going to teach you "how to adult", starting off with "how to resume".
There are many different ways to write a resume, but I'll try to keep it simple and easy. So let's start with the do's...
Do's
When it comes to fonts...
- Stick to font sizes between 9 - 12.
- Use traditional fonts, such as Helvetica or Times New Roman.
- Keep it simple and don't use fonts that are difficult to read!
When it comes to formatting...
- List everything chronologically (Start with what are you doing and then work backwards).
- Separate things into categories.
- You want to break it down and make it easy to see your work experience, education and accomplishments, as shown below in my curriculum vitae (CV)!
When it comes to content...
- Tailor your resume/CV to the specific job!
- Make sure that what you put in your resume fits with the job or internship you are trying to get.
- 52% of hiring managers stated they would like to see specific examples when it comes to previous work (reference: Buzzfeed).
- Keep it short and sweet.
- Keep it to the most one full page for your resume and a separate page for references.
Don'ts
- Don't include an objective statement!
- Don't make it personal! Keep it professional.
- Don't use a photograph on your resume!
- Don't include your GPA if it is below a 3.5! Instead emphasize other accomplishments.
